In Latin it is where we can find the etymological origin of the word continuity that we are now going to analyze. It emanates from “continuitas”, which can be translated as “quality of not being interrupted” and which is made up of the following parts:
• The prefix “with”, which is equivalent to “together”.
• The verb “tenere”, which is synonymous with “retain” or “dominate”.
• The suffix “-uo”, which is used to indicate relationship.
According to abbreviationfinder, continuity is a term that refers to the link between those things that are, in some way, continuous. A while ago, the concept was also used as a synonym for continuation, although today this use is somewhat archaic.
For example: “Continuing with the continuity of the news, we are going to move on to another topic: the triumph of the national team in Italian territory”, “I like your drawings, but be careful not to break the continuity of the lines”, “The borders or guards allow to establish a continuity between the kitchen and the dining room, even if they are two separate environments ”.
In the field of cinema and television, the idea of continuity is associated with the logical succession of different shots. The intention is that the continuity is not lost so that the viewer can retain their credibility with respect to what is exhibited. Suppose that, in a movie, a character dressed in a red shirt opens the door of his house with the intention of going outside. In the next scene, the same character is already walking down the street, but his shirt is now blue. In this case, the continuity is broken and the staging of the story becomes evident. What continuity seeks, in short, is to maintain coherence in the fictional universe.
It must be established that this type of continuity in the cinema is also called raccord and that it must exist in five fundamental aspects when it comes to ensuring that the sensation of sequence in the viewer is not broken. Specifically, it must be clear both with regard to the costumes and the stage, the space, the interpretation and also the lighting.
In the same way, we can establish that there is what is known as a “solution of continuity”. This is a term used to indicate a noticeable lack of continuity or an interruption.
We have to determine that, in the same way, there is what is called the principle of labor continuity. It is a term used within Labor Law and establishes that, in the face of any type of doubt and based on proven reality, the examining magistrate of a case chooses to estimate the duration of the employment contract of the person in question to the greatest extent possible.
This principle is considered to be totally beneficial for the worker and especially for his economy.
For mathematics, continuity is a property of a function qualified as continuous. These continuous functions can be intuitively noticed when, when plotted, they do not exhibit interruptions or irregular swings: therefore, they can be drawn without lifting the pen from the sheet.
